Wanla Monastery or Gompa is a medieval Buddhist monastery in Wanla hamlet. The monastery is said to have been built around the year 1000 AD. Lama Rinchen Zangpo, a saint of the time, translated Lord Buddha's teachings into Tibetan which led him to lead the devotees and construct this monastery. Visitors may also see the ruins of a 12th-century castle and a newly erected structure when visiting the monastery, which has many attractions in addition to its holiness and scenic beauty.
One of the best times to visit Wanla Gompa is just before sunset, meaning you'll have good weather during your trip as well. If you want to trek up to the monastery, this is the most likely time because it's also a little bit cooler. You might even see a beautiful sunset on the way!
