The name of the lake literally means "Lake of the Sun" and it is one of the sources of the River Chandra.


The best time to visit Suraj Tal Lake is from June to September when the weather is pleasant and sunny. The lake can be reached by a trek from either Batal or Kunzum Pass.


How to reach Suraj Tal Lake


The easiest way to reach Suraj Tal Lake is by taking a bus or taxi from Manali. The journey takes about 10-12 hours. Another option is to take a train from Delhi to Kalka and then take a bus or shared jeep from Kalka to Manali. This journey takes about 24 hours.


Once you reach Manali, you can either take a bus or shared jeep to reach Spiti Valley. The journey from Manali to Spiti Valley takes about 10-12 hours. Shared jeeps are available from 6 am in the morning till 2 pm in the afternoon.

The best time to visit Suraj Tal Lake is in the summer months of June, July and August. The weather is warm and sunny, making it perfect for hikes and picnics by the lake. The water level of the lake is also at its highest during this time, so you can enjoy swimming and boating in its crystal clear waters. However, do keep in mind that snowfall starts in October/November, so the roads may become inaccessible if there is heavy snowfall.
