Lamayuru Village Ladakh - Indo Guide

As many travel guides point out, Lamayuru Village is the source of mesmerizing first-hand experiences of moonlike landscapes in Ladakh. This typical village is well-known for having one of the oldest and biggest monasteries in the region. It's also known for having a constantly changing landscape due to erosion caused by the flow of the Tsangpo River into an old lake that was long dried up. Despite the lack of visibility on a cloudy day, those who appreciate nature will give this destination a chance because it's relatively serene and doesn't have many crowds.

Why Lamayuru Village is Famous?

Lamayuru is most famously known for its moon-like landscapes carved into the greater Himalayan mountain range. Climbing on what's called Meditation Hill is one of the best ways to experience them. Up there, you'll find amazing meditative boulders and old monks who still live in Lamayuru. As you climb to the top of the hill, you'll find Chinese Buddhist scriptures written on the rocks, plus some of the most beautiful Buddhist temples and monastery structures.
